Our Vice Chairman’s response to a recent interview given by Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev), Head of the Department for External Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, to the National Catholic Register’s Edward Pentin, has itself been taken up by the NCR. Fr Mark Woodruff had found the Metropolitan’s statements lacking in a genuine spirit of mutual dialogue and containing a number of historical inaccuracies in order to level criticism – and offensive terms and untruths – at the Ukrainian Catholic Church and, by implication, its Patriarch Sviatoslav.
Edward Pentin’s report in turn agrees that the Metrpolitan’s words were cutting and unecumical and he has commended Fr Mark’s response for a wide readership.
