This directory is kept up to date to the best of our ability but, as mission sites in particular are subject to change, some of the information may be out of date. Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church
Byzantine Rite. Established as the Metropolis of Kyiv by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 988 and re-entered communion with the Apostolic See of Rome through the Union of Brest in 1596. Officially a Major Archiepiscopate seated in Kyiv but considered a Patriarchate within the UGCC. The traditional liturgical language is Church Slavonic though Ukrainian and other vernacular tongues are now common. Membership in 2017: 4,471,688. The Eparchy of the Holy Family of London includes Belarusian, Hungarian, and Slovak Greek Catholic missions.

Syro-Malabar Catholic Church
East Syriac Rite. Established in India by Saint Thomas in AD 52, re-entered communion with the Apostolic See of Rome in 1565, and organised in its current form in 1923. Major Archiepiscopate of the See of Ernakulam–Angamaly, Kerala. The traditional liturgical language is Syriac (Aramaic), though modern Indian languages and other vernacular tongues are also used. Membership in 2017: 4,251,399.

Syriac Maronite Church of Antioch
West Syriac Rite (subject to historical Latinization and more recent reform following the Second Vatican Council). Established in Syria by followers of Saint Maron in 410 and traditionally held to have been in continuous communion with the Apostolic See of Rome. Patriarchate of the See of Antioch, now seated in Bkerké, Lebanon. Traditional liturgical languages include Arabic and Syriac (Aramaic), though other vernacular tongues are used in the diaspora. Membership in 2017: 3,498,707.

Melkite Greek Catholic Church
Byzantine Rite. Established by Saint Peter in Antioch in AD 37 and re-entered communion with the Apostolic See of Rome in 1724. Patriarchate of the See of Antioch, now seated in Damascus, Syria. Traditional liturgical languages include Arabic and Greek, though other vernacular tongues are used in the diaspora. Membership in 2017: 1,568,239.

Chaldean Catholic Church
East Syriac Rite. Established in communion with the Apostolic See of Rome in 1552 following a schism in the Church of the East, itself founded in the Sassanid Empire (Iran) in 410. Patriarchate (until 2021, of the See of Babylon), seated in Baghdad. The liturgical language is Syriac (Aramaic). Membership in 2017: 628,405.

Syro-Malankara Catholic Church
West Syriac Rite. Established in India by Saint Thomas in AD 52, adopted the West Syriac Rite after entering into communion with the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch in 1665, and re-entered communion with the Apostolic See of Rome in 1930. Major Archiepiscopate-Catholicate of the See of Trivandrum, Kerala. The traditional liturgical language is Syriac (Aramaic), though modern Indian languages and other vernacular tongues are also used. Membership in 2017: 458,015.

Eritrean Catholic Church
Alexandrian Rite. Established in 2015 from a branch of the Ethiopian Catholic Church, which has its origins in an 1839 mission. Metropolitan Archiepiscopate seated in Asmara. The liturgical language is Ge’ez. Membership in 2017: 167,722.

Romanian Greek Catholic Church
Byzantine Rite. Established 1698-1700 from the Diocese of Alba Iulia of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople following the Habsburg conquest of Transylvania. Major Archiepiscopate of Făgăraș & Alba Iulia. The liturgical language is Romanian. Membership in 2017: 150,593.

Ethiopian Catholic Church
Alexandrian Rite. Established following a mission in 1839, raised to an exarchate in 1951 and a metropolitanate in 1961. Metropolitanate of the See of Addis Ababa. The liturgical language is Ge’ez. Membership in 2017: 70,832.
