Scarcely a few weeks ago, a professor of the Ukrainian Catholic University was hauled before the courts on trumped up traffic charges to intimidate him and harass UCU’s long standing commitment to anti-corruption and probity in public life and commerce. Now the state is shooting and maiming unarmed citizens exercising their fundamental human rights of freedom of speech and assembly. In killing our fellow Catholic, the scholar Bohdan Solchanyk, the regime is taking aim at the light of history, the narrative of truth, the honesty of the record of events, and thus at Christ himself.
Here is the announcement of Bohdan Solchanyk’s death issued by the Ukrainian Institute here in London – May his memory be eternal:
20.07.1985 – 20.02.2014 |
“It is with great sadness in our hearts to inform you that among the dead on Independence Square in Kyiv today was our dear friend and colleague Bohdan Solchanyk, Lecturer in Modern History at the Ukrainian Catholic University.
“UCU and Ukrainian Institute community expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bohdan.
May his soul Rest in Peace”
